FILINGS
Discover a simple and efficient procedure
Most people will need at least one filling during their lifetime. Dental fillings are generally used to treat cavities, repair broken teeth and other cosmetic reasons. It is a great way to repair a damaged smile and give back to your teeth functionality and splendor.
If the problem is found in its early stages, your tooth and its various components can probably be preserved, but the longer you wait, the more serious the problem could become. It is very important to take action before the tooth decay worsens and requires an expensive crown, root canal treatment or tooth extraction.
Most dental repair procedures include the following elements:
- Local anaesthesia to numb the area
- Removal of cavities from affected tooth
- Restoration of teeth with a composite or amalgam
- Checking the jaw closure to ensure that your teeth align and touch comfortably
What to expect after the procedure?
Once Dr. Al Eid has carefully restored your tooth to normal, your lips and gums may remain numb for a few hours until the medication wears off. To avoid hurting yourself be careful not to chew on your numbed lips and cheeks. Your recently repaired tooth may also be sensitive to heat and cold for some time after the procedure. Don’t hesitate to mention this to Dr. Al Eid he will help you relieve the temporary discomfort.
What types of materials are used?
There are many different types of material that can be used for your restoration and these depend on the level of damage to the tooth, its location and your budget. Typical materials are gold, silver, porcelain and a composite resin.
Gold seals
Gold fillings are considered the best kind of fillings because they last longer but they still remain among the most expensive of all fillers. They may also require two visits to the Bellerive clinic to complete the treatment, while other filling materials may only require one.
Silver seals
Silver fillings are mainly used towards the back of the mouth because their silver color makes them less aesthetically pleasing. Durable and less expensive than gold, the main disadvantage of this type of material is the filing of the tooth that is required to allow for the filling to hold in place.
Porcelain
Porcelain fillings are also used in many types of repairs, as they are exactly the same color as your teeth. Known to be more brittle, their lifespan is about 7 years and their price can be as high as a gold filling, depending on the size and the damaged area.
Composite resin
Composite resin are the same color as your tooth and will be made from an exact mold of your tooth. A special light is used to harden the resin inside the tooth to create a more natural look. Since the resin sticks directly to your tooth, it will also help strengthen the whole structure of it. This material is less expensive than gold fillings and usually lasts around 8 years.
